The clouds had gathered over the Trois-Rivières that faithful day, our forces were limited by the illness that had left several officers quarantined in their tents. The British forces had gathered across the river from ours, the Union jack could be seen from our encampment, taunting and mocking us. Lt. Kelly had been issued the order to retrieve this flag at any cost, to throw the regiments reserves at this flag till every man crawled bloody and bruised towards that waiving Union Jack, till by any cost it was ours. Regardless of the loss of life encumbered by our regiment, that flag would be ours.

June 9th, 1776

Despite the greatest efforts by the British forces our men fought valiantly and returned from the banks of the Trois-Rivières victorious. Upon his steed Lt. Kelly could be seen touting his prize, that vile Union Jack.
